The Perfect "Body"

Everyday we are exposed to a variety of advertisements like the one above.  Whether we look up at a billboard or down at our phone, we are constantly exposed to ads just like this.  The exposure to ads like these is so frequent that much of the time we don't even notice it.  Some people might look at this ad and think of nothing, but the product that is being advertised.  Others are only drawn to see the women behind the product.  There are many people who see these women and see the fact that the expectation for women to look like that is just unrealistic.  These women are not real. They are edited to appeal to others, but just gives people a different sense of reality. The company putting out this advertisement is put out to subliminally tell people that if they buy this product, they too can look like the women in the ad. This is just not real life, and no product is going to change that. Below is what women really look like.  That is real and should be the image that companies are portraying real women with real bodies.

    Huh?

"The company putting out this advertisement is put out to subliminally tell people that if they buy this product"
    What?

If you're going to post an image from Twitter on your blog, you should attribute it.

  2. I love this post because its so real. We are constantly being compared to beauty standards anyway we slice it. Something I came across recently was amazing. I saw online that Aerie is doing a "no photoshop" ad on their bags and billboards. Women with "Average" body types are being portrayed as beautiful and NOT edited at all- they are just themselves. It was amazing for me to see, although people were bashing the girl for being fat (which she was nowhere close) it makes me happy that we are making progress in the realization that EVERYONE is their own type of beautiful, no matter what society says.

  3. I love the way that you went about this problem. Your way of calling out advertisers and there way of appealing to specific people in their ads was spot on. Saying that there are people who look at what is being sold, and then there are those who are looking solely at the women was a perfect way of calling these people out. I also like the way that you set up this post, places these pictures in the spots that they are in was a good way of grasping attention and setting up your posts. Over all this was an enjoyable, powerful piece.
